Two things… I apologize for continuing to be inconsistent. Between ADHD and life, I find consistency to be like to trying to run with a cup of coffee without spilling it. Almost impossible.
The other thing is that I am writing this on a Thursday to head off the inconsistent Friday miss. My attempt to put a lid on the coffee. At least for this week.
So, I do like coffee. A lot. Well, more than a lot. It’s a problem. However, because of my “problem”, I was able to see something at the coffee shop this morning that made me think. Being greeted by your name feels good. Novel concept I know, but hear me out. One thing I have come to realize is that I enjoy that coffee shop, not just because of the Joe, but also because my day starts with recognition. Someone has taken the time to learn my name because I mean something to them. And for all you negative Nancy’s out there, I am aware that I possess money for the business, but it still feels good.
Which brings me to part two, Altruism. The concept of being helpful to others without benefit to you. Saying hello to someone by name, in a very small, usually under the radar sense, brings them a little bit of sunshine. Not bright or intense, but a small ray in a sometimes dreary day. You let them know you have taken the time to learn their name and in doing so show them there is something meaningful about them. Simple, like sugar. tiny but nice and sweet. And if you’re not careful, you might just get a little of that sunshine back. It’s a two-for. So thanks for reading this (your name here). Enjoy the day.
